Literary Critic
The modern literary critic, whether it is children’s literature or not, works in the person of an independent expert, giving an objective assessment of literary works that come out. He or she may carry out professional activities either within a particular company or in the person of a private expert. Often these specialists are invited to be members of evaluation commissions and judging panels of various literary and poetry contests.
HOW TO WRITE A GOOD CRITICAL NOTE ABOUT A BOOK
Before you start writing a critique, you need to introduce the reader of your critique to the author, his or her style, and the literary work itself.
Describe the thoughts and feelings you have about the work you’re criticizing. Pay attention to the turns of speech used by the author, try to guess what the writer wanted to say with those or other words and phrases.
Note what makes the text unique. Here you can also describe the admiration evoked by immersion in the work of the writer, note his special techniques of writing, highlight the strengths of the unique aspects of the work.
The main stage of the critique reveals the intent of the author’s creation, what the work was created for, what the author wanted to say with it.
Carefully analyze the work, its purpose, the main ideas of creation. Express your thoughts and feelings that you have when reading this work.
Pay attention – do not overload the text of the note with complicated abstruse terms, write in simple and precise words that reflect the essence of your thought.
Useful tips – write your critique in order, starting with the title, for example. Reveal the meaning of the piece step by step. Try to describe your position in a clear, well-reasoned way, without blurring it with unnecessary words. Express yourself clearly and as briefly as possible.
