Mother's Day - Special Memories and Planning Ahead

I know that Mother's Day is still weeks away, but this year I'm trying to plan ahead! The kids and I are going to plant marigold seeds in pots. We're hoping the plants will grow over the next month and by the time Mother's Day rolls around, we'll be able to give them as gifts.

Why Marigolds? One year my brother grew a Marigold plant in school for my mom and gave it to her on Mother's Day. My mother is especially fond of Marigolds. When we were growing up she always planted one long row of Marigolds in front of our home. The year my brother gave her the Marigold, she planted the tiny plant in a prominent position at the beginning of the long row. That little Marigold plant, grown with love, flourished. It grew three times larger than the store bought plants and produced many gorgeous flowers. I remember being a little jealous of my brother at the time. His little gift kept giving and giving and giving! It brought joy to our family all summer long with its happy yellow blossoms. I don't even remember what I gave my mother that particular year. Only the Marigold sticks in my mind. For me, it symbolizes the perfect Mother's Day gift. Every year, on Mother's Day, I think about that little plant and what a spectacular gift it turned out to be. This year on Mother's Day we are going to spread joy and happiness by giving Marigolds grown with love.

What kind of gifts have you given or received for Mother's Day? I'm looking forward to receiving a few special gifts from the heart this year. My kids always give me homemade cards and other unique presents. Last year my daughter's 4K teacher helped her write a "Mom Knows Best" note. My daughter's contributions are in purple.

Mom Knows Best

My mommy is awesome because she gives me hugs all the time.
My mom is 13 years old.
When my mom is not working, she likes to snuggle with us.
My mom is good at a lot of things, but she is best at doing projects with me.
My mom looks best when she is wearing her dress.
My mom is a great cook. The thing I like the most is cooked bread.
If my mom could be anything in the world she'd be a princess.
Something funny about my mom is she gives me tickles.
My mom loves me because I'm so great for her!

Marigolds were my favorite flower as a child and I still love them. Your daughter's notes home are sweet...especially that she thinks you're so young and you aspire to be a princess. How cute!

Your bother is such a sweet child. That's something that a mother really find joy in her child. Well, for me, on mother's day. Hopefully I could my mom a jewelry.

I love the writing prompts! Perhaps I can give my husband a "hint" to write a special book for me for Mother's Day. Or maybe I can just save this idea for Father's Day instead. So you are a very young mom in your daughter's eyes :)
